All the major looks from tonight’s Brit Awards red carpet (including Olivia Rodrigo in full sequins and Maya Jama’s EPIC Cher tribute)

Despite an unseasonably quiet January, awards season is finally hotting up. And while the Oscars nominations were announced earlier in the day, it was the Brit Awards taking centre stage on Tuesday night as the much-anticipated star-studded ceremony kicked off at the O2 Arena in London.

Marking a first for the iconic event, this year’s awards were all entirely gender-neutral with local and international awards taking place of traditional male and female categories. There were also four new genre-based awards, as well as the addition of the International Song of the Year category.

But while the awards were – of course – a major part of proceedings, there were also some seriously epic performances with all five Artist of the Year nominees (that’s Adele, Dave, Ed Sheeran, Little Simz and Sam Fender) taking to the stage.

Naturally, with so many epic creatives in attendance, the looks arriving on the red carpet are always a real highlight of the Brit Awards. And with everyone from Adele to Little Mix, Taylor Swift, Anne-Marie, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo and Griff up for some of the night’s biggest gongs, this year’s red carpet was always set to be electric.

Abby Roberts just made a very convincing case for the super-sheer dress on the Brits red carpet

One of the first to arrive was award-presenter Maya Jama, who opted for a particularly epic Mônot two-piece from the brand’s spring/summer 2021 collection. Paired with mules by shoe-label-of-the-moment, Mach & Mach, we couldn’t have been more into it.

Or, at least, we didn’t think we could, until we recognised where we’d seen a very similar dress before and realised that Maya’s look was, in fact, a tribute to one of the most iconic red carpet looks ever; Cher’s ‘Mohawk Dress’ designed by Bob Mackie and worn to the 1986 Oscars.
