Comedian Amy Schumer made a brief, cutting reference to ‘Nazi’ Kanye West during her return to Saturday Night Live

Schumer, 41, was hosting the long-running sketch show for the first time since 2018 and the third time overall, mocked West over his recent anti-Semitic rhetoric during her opening monologue.

The ‘Life and Beth’ star was talking to the crowd about how her husband was on the autism spectrum and how his condition used to be referred to as Asperger’s Syndrome.

Schumer then said: ‘It used to be called Asperger’s, but then they found out that Dr. Asperger had Nazi ties, Kanye…’

The ‘Inside Amy Schumer’ creator then appeared to riff as if she’d not meant to say that, tapping her microphone to see if anyone could hear her and intoning: ‘That’s weird.’

Schumer appeared to reference West and suspended Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving’s recent spate of anti-Semitic comments in the show’s closing, where she wore a baseball T-shirt that read: ‘<3 Jews.’

The long-time liberal comic referenced the upcoming elections as well, joking that she was hosting the final episode before the ‘midterm abortions’ before interrupting herself, saying: ‘What did I say? Sorry, I was thinking about what’s at stake if we don’t vote.’

She also discussed her life with her husband and son before moving on to starring in various sketches and introducing musical guest Steve Lacy.

The comments were the latest criticism of West, who has been under fire recently for comments he made last month that were deemed to be anti-Semitic.

The rapper wrote in a tweet: ‘I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE. The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also. You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.’

The rapper’s Twitter account was later suspended.

West was asked by Piers Morgan last week if he regretted the tweet and he said, ‘No – absolutely not, absolutely not . . . I fought fire with fire – I’m not here to get hosed down – that’s a different type of freedom fighter.’

He later clarified: ‘I will say I’m sorry for the people that I hurt. I feel like I cause hurt and confusion, and I’m sorry for the families of the people that had nothing to do with the trauma that I had been through and that I use my platform where you say, “Hurt people hurt people,” and I was hurt.’

His comments saw him lose hundreds of millions of dollars in business deals and advertising partnerships including GAP, Balenciaga and Adidas, who were the manufacturer, and distributors of the rapper’s highly successful clothing line and Yeezy shoe brand. Banking giant JP Morgan Chase has also dropped him.

His total wealth plummeted as it fell from a reported $2 billion to around $500 million following Adidas severing ties with him.

While Kanye has been known to have unpredictable outbursts on social media – he was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder in 2016 – his rants have become more frequent this year.

While West didn’t apologize while making his remarks, he did say that he had been ‘humbled’ with the furor costing him an estimated $1 billion in business deals.

West said he believes God has been humbling him for bragging often about his wealth – much of which he has lost due to suspended brand deals.

West has famously declined to take any mood-stabilizing drugs – despite his diagnosis.

Saturday Night Live will return with comedian Dave Chappelle hosting for the third time next week with first-time musical guest Black Star.
