Female Trump-backed candidate in Michigan will vote to outlaw contraceptives

A female Trump-backed candidate running for Michigan state Senate said if elected she would vote to outlaw contraception as Republicans across the country continue their push to scale back abortion and reproductive rights.

On a recent appearance on conservative news outlet Church Militant, Jacky Eubanks, who is running for Michigan’s 63rd House district, claimed that banning birth control would solve the supposed declining population issue in the country.

‘All of this could be avoided if we were actually a truly pro-life nation, which means conceiving a child is a beautiful and sacred thing,’ she told Church Militant founder Michael Voris. ‘And that is why sex ought to be between one man and one woman in the confines of marriage, and open to life.’

Her push to ban contraception comes weeks after a leaked draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito suggested a majority of Conservatives on the court are prepared to end the constitutional right to an abortion.

The official opinion won’t be released until near the end of the court’s term – in late June or early July – and could be changed until then.

Five of the six conservative justices are said to support the opinion with only Chief Justice John Roberts dissenting with the three liberals on the bench. Roberts does, however, support a ban on abortion at the 15-week point of a pregnancy.

The Trump-backed candidate added that if elected and a vote on birth control were to be brought up in the state House, she ‘would have to side with it should not be legal.’

Eubanks said banning contraception would force people to think twice about having sex and make it so they only have sex in order to procreate.

‘I think people would actually be more likely to wait until marriage, to practice chastity, which is incredibly important,’ she said. ‘I think that the birth rate of children outside of wedlock would probably go down in that case.’

The conservative added that abortion and birth control have led to country to stray away from Christian morals, leading to ‘chaos and destruction.’

‘You cannot have a successful society outside of the Christian moral order,’ she said. ‘And things like abortion and things like gay marriage are outside of the Christian moral order, and they lead to chaos and destruction and a culture of death.’

Trump endorsed Eubanks in December, saying she was a ‘courageous young woman’ for personally documenting supposed election fraud in Michigan.

‘Jacky Eubanks has been out there, working hard, on her own. I wholeheartedly Endorse Jacky Eubanks for Michigan State Representative,’ the former president said. ‘She is an America First Patriot, and I have no doubt that she will have a great future in the Republican Party!’

Eubanks’ call to ban contraception comes on the heels of Oklahoma lawmakers passing the most restrictive abortion law in the United States which bans terminations from the moment of fertilization.

The bill by Collinsville Republican Rep. Wendi Stearman would prohibit all abortions, except to save the life of a pregnant woman or if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest that has been reported to law enforcement.

She defended it by saying that pro-choice arguments are so cruel it may as well be legal to abort children up until the age of 18.

Addressing the legislature Thursday, Stearman said: ‘It would solve many problems. Think of the disruptions in school.’

With few other options to codify abortion rights on a nationwide level, Democrats have primarily focused their messaging on getting voters out to elect more progressive candidates.

After the failed vote, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer urged Americans to ‘elect more pro-choice Democrats if you want to protect a woman’s freedom and right to choose.’

He added: ‘Elect more MAGA Republicans if you want to see a nationwide ban on abortion, if you want to see doctors and women arrested, if you want to see no exceptions for rape or incest.’

Republicans, however, have sought to paint Democrats as extremists seeking unrestricted abortion rights – and expressed outrage over the leaker’s violation of Supreme Court privacy.
