10 TV Shows Redditors Watched The Most Of Before Finally Quitting

[ad_1]

Fans are getting ready to tune into the last season of Riverdale, which will begin airing at the beginning of 2023. While many viewers have seen every single episode, others have stopped keeping up with the show in favor of others that hold their attention more. Some TV fans never skip an episode of a favorite series, even if they feel bored or like the new storylines aren’t as well-developed. Others prefer to quit, even when they’ve seen the majority of episodes.

Reddit fans are sharing the TV shows that they said goodbye to, even after watching most seasons. These series are all popular, beloved, and have at least seven seasons. When plotlines become less realistic and the show feels completely different, some fans quit in favor of other content.

Pretty Little Liars (2010-2017)

Aria, Emily, Hanna, and Spencer at a funeral in PLL

Although fans love the strong characters and plot twists of Pretty Little Liars, a common criticism is that the mystery veers into confusing directions and that can make it hard to watch every episode. Redditor Xanderic stopped watching the show and posted, “Who wAs A kept getting more and more ridiculous.”

Pretty Little Liars has some filler episodes and it feels like it takes a long time to find out who A is, along with Uber A and the members of the A team who have been stalking and hurting the liars for years.

Grey’s Anatomy (2005-)

The Grey's Anatomy season 18 cast

Grey’s Anatomy is a show with two types of fans: those who will never stop watching and those who gave up a few seasons ago. Redditor jordy_muhnordy wrote, “After season 12 (maybe 13? I’ve lost track), there wasn’t anything new, and I lost interest.”

While the story of Meredith Grey is emotional and compelling, and there are many exciting episodes and sweet couples, it can sometimes feel tough to stick with a series that has more than 10 seasons. It’s hard to feel that every new season feels the same in terms of character arcs and thrilling twists.

The X-Files (1993-2018)

Mulder and Scully in The X-Files

For Redditor spinereader81, The X-Files is the show that they decided to stop after they had seen several seasons. The fan wrote, “Just adored the show, but it started to get bogged down with so much conspiracy stuff, which just got boring for me.”

The X-Files is a good example of a show that feels fascinating at first and then might become formulaic after a while thanks to the case-of-the-week or monster-of-the-week structure of the episodes.

Grimm (2011-2017)

Grimm is a fun ride with fantasy elements and a strong main character in Nick Burkhardt, a police investigator who finds out that his family has always been in charge of stopping creatures called Wesen hurt humans. Redditor Enough-Ad-3818 quit the show and wrote, “it got so repetitive.”

Similar to other shows about lawyers or private investigators, each episode of Grimm starts blending into each other after a while, which explains why it might be a show that feels entertaining at first and then becomes less exciting.

Supernatural (2005-2020)

Since Supernatural has 15 seasons, it makes sense that this is a show that many fans have watched most of and then decided that it’s time to let go. Redditor philipfoden said, “I watched around 9-10 seasons before giving up” and Redditor Educational-Tower added, “I gave up in season four. Way too repetitive.”

While fans love Supernatural, 15 seasons is definitely a lot. It can sometimes feel like Sam and Dean Winchester find themselves in the same situations over and over again, which explains why some watch most of the show and then discover something else.

Suits (2011-2019)

Redditor countd0wns didn’t end up finishing Suits and wrote, “I stopped watching when Meghan Markle and Patrick Adams left.” At the end of season 7, Rachel Zane and Mike Ross have a happy ending as their storylines wrap up by them getting married.

Suits has two more seasons after this big event, but it makes sense that some fans decided to quit since they loved watching these smart characters and the love that they have for each other. Season 8 introduces a new character, Samantha Wheeler, played by Katherine Heigl, but for some viewers, Rachel and Mike were the heart of the show.

Once Upon A Time (2011-2018)

Stream on Disney+

Once Upon A Time tells an exciting, magical story about a world where fairy tale characters are real. But while there are seven seasons, not everyone stuck with it and enjoyed it until the very end. One Redditor said, “Stopped after a few episodes into the final season. It wasn’t the same show.”

While Once Upon A Time has brave characters and it’s fun to see these beloved figures like Captain Hook and the Evil Queen come to life, the show can feel like more of the same after a while, making it hard to want to continue.

House (2004-2012)

One big reason to stop watching a popular show, even if someone loves the characters and major storyline, is that the episodes feel like repeats of one another. Replying in a thread about stopping a TV show after watching several seasons, Redditor f1umpf said that they gave up on “House” and added that it was “formulaic.”

While House’s cynical and confident personality is beloved, and there are enough unique cases to keep viewers interested episode after episode, it does make sense that for some, every episode of House isn’t different enough.

The Walking Dead (2010-2022)

Daryl And Leah The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead wrapped up with its series finale on November 20th, 2022, and since the intense and dramatic show aired for 11 seasons, this was definitely a long journey for fans.

Redditor pat9714 wrote “After Season 7 (or was it six?), I quit The Walking Dead completely” because of “Formulaic plot resurfacing over and over using different characters.” It’s the kind of show that keeps viewers on its toes constantly.

Dexter (2006-2013)

One Redditor said that they quit Dexter and “stopped after season 4, which apparently was a good call.” While many fans were excited to watch the reboot Dexter: New Blood, which aired from 2021 to 2022, several fans were upset when Dexter’s wife Rita was murdered.

If some Dexter viewers stopped watching the show at any point in time, it would have been after watching the first three seasons because it was painful to continue after Dexter loses Rita. It was a bold decision to kill this favorite character.
