[ad_1]

Eight details in the second Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer could easily have gone unnoticed. Released during Super Bowl LVII, the trailer provided a close look at what’s next for Star-Lord’s team of heroes in the MCU. The grim tone in th trailer emphasizes the fact that the third installment in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is the end of the road for many of the movie’s main characters.

In addition to teasing potential deaths for heroes like Drax and Star-Lord, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer shines the spotlight on Rocket Raccoon’s origin story while also explaining the ultimate goal of the movie’s main villain, the High Evolutionary. The footage also previewed Adam Warlock’s role by allowing for more glimpses of the MCU character. These elements of the movie drew the most attention, which could result in other aspects of the story being overlooked. Here’s eight, easy-to-miss details from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer.

8 The Song In The GOTG 3 Trailer Is Rainbow’s “Since You Been Gone”

Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3-1

The song heard in the trailer is “Since You Been Gone” by Rainbow. Marvel movies, particularly though those made by James Gunn, have a tendency to pull songs from the classic rock genre. But while “Since You Been Gone” fits in well with that approach, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer happens to be the first instance of the MCU borrowing from Rainbow’s catalog. Founded and led by Deep Purple’s Ritchie Blackmore, Rainbow is a hard rock group from England that were at the height of their popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Best known for their 1982 hit, “Stone Cold,” Rainbow performed its cover of Russ Ballard’s “Since You Been Gone” in 1979 with its second lead singer, Graham Bonnet. Interestingly, the Rainbow version of the song was also used in the soundtrack for the Guardians of the Galaxy video game.

7 Marvel Teases Kraglin Finally Mastering Yondu’s Arrow

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Trailer Kraglin

Following Yondu’s death, one of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s post-credits scenes showed Kraglin accidently striking Drax in a failed attempt to control Yondu’s arrow. Later, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special revealed that even though it’s been in Kraglin’s possession for quite some time at this point, he still hasn’t gone a handle on how it works. But from the looks of things, Kraglin’s MCU story won’t end without the character finally getting his chance to properly wield Yondu’s signature weapon. The shot of him standing motionlessly while holding it implies he’s on the cusp of getting at least one big-screen moment where he unleashes the arrow in the heat of battle.

6 Star-Lord’s Team May Have A New Member

The Guardians of the Galaxy walk forward as fires burn behind them.

The small creature spotted alongside Peter Quill and Gamora quietly popped up earlier in the trailer. In the shot that previewed the Guardians of the Galaxy lineup at 0:08, the alien was shown walking behind Star-Lord, Gamora, Nebula, Rocket, Drax, and Groot. Dubbed “Blurp” by Gunn, the new MCU alien appears to be original to the movie and not based on any existing character from Marvel Comics. As for what his role will be, his presence in the aforementioned scene is an indication that he might actually be on the team for at least a portion of the movie.

5 Drax Fights Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock vs Drax Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set the stage for a heated showdown between Adam Warlock and Drax the Destroyer. Drax was seen engaged in a dramatic clash with Will Poulter’s character. In the comics, Drax possesses enough raw power that he would be considered a real threat to Adam Warlock in a fight, but the MCU has thus far refrained from depicting him as a true cosmic powerhouse. But looking at how he seems to be challenging Adam on a physical level in the trailer, the MCU may be gearing up to demonstrate Drax’s full potential. If a fight with Adam Warlock is on the horizon, he’ll need every ounce of his comic counterpart’s super strength to match up with him.

4 Nebula Has A New Arm

Guardians Galaxy Nebula

One Guardian is getting an upgrade ahead of the team’s impending battle with Adam Warlock and the High Evolutionary. Nebula is sporting a new bionic arm in the footage. And it would seem that it’s not just a cosmetic change; the trailer shows Nebula’s arm producing an orange energy blade. By equipping the arm with hidden weapons, Marvel has greatly strengthened Nebula’s arsenal and made her an even greater threat to her enemies. Plus, it creates some distance between Nebula and Gamora and enables her to bring something unique to the table that Zoe Saldana’s character doesn’t offer.

3 Gamora Carries A Wounded Rocket Raccoon

Gamora Run Rocket Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 Trailer

At one point in the footage, Gamora can be seen running through the city shown in the previous trailer. Held under one arm is an unconscious Rocket Raccoon. Similar to the scene where he’s being kept in a cage, Rocket doesn’t seem to be wearing any clothes, which points to a link between these two sequences. It’s possible that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s story will see Rocket get captured by his creator, who may perform further experiments on him. Whatever he endures during his imprisonment may be the reason for his weakened state when Gamora is carrying him. It could be that this scene is set after the Guardians manage to rescue him.

2 Lylla The Otter Is Marvel Comics Character

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 Rocket and Lylla

The Super Bowl trailer has shown off more of the anthropomorphic creature that will interact with Rocket in the movie. The animal in question is Lylla, a talking otter from Marvel’s original Rocket Raccoon comic series from the early 1980s. Long before developing ties to the Guardians, Rocket was a member of an anthropomorphic group of space adventurers. One of them – Lylla – acted as Rocket’s love interest in the comic. Like Rocket, she wasn’t created by the High Evolutionary in Marvel Comics, but is being reworked her into a product of his efforts to build a “perfect society.”

1 Marvel Teases The MCU’s Counter-Earth

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Trailer Counter-Earth

The shot of Peter looking perplexed as they fly toward a planet that resembles Earth all but confirms that the MCU is about to adapt a major location from Marvel Comics. Introduced in the pages of The Power of Adam Warlock, Counter-Earth is a duplicate of Earth created by the High Evolutionary. Looking to build his own world, the villain populated it with human clones to make it as close to the original as possible. This appears to be the site of the suburban city visited by the Guardians in the first trailer. But instead of its residents all being human in nature, the MCU has seemingly swapped them with animal-like beings akin to Rocket and Lylla.
