Spoilers for Tales from Earth-6: A Celebration of Stan Lee #1 by DC Comics

DC can make Stan Lee’s last bucket list item come true by turning his version of the Justice League into an animated movie. We spoke with Michael Uslan, a close collaborator with the late comic book legend, about bringing the world of Lee’s take on DC heroes to life. Uslan revealed Lee always wanted to see the characters come to life in an animated movie.

In our wide-ranging conversation with Michael Uslan, who worked with Stan Lee in bringing new versions of the Justice League heroes to life in the early 2000s in his Just Imagine universe, the writer and film producer revealed Lee still has one last item to cross off his bucket list in his career. He shared that after Lee cameoed in Teen Titans Go! To The Movies and appearing in the DC Universe, he had a single thing left in his career he wanted to see come to fruition. According to Uslan, the late comic book legend hoped to see his Just Imagine universe star in an animated film.

Stan Lee’s Just Imagine Universe, where he worked closely with several talented artists and creative minds, introduced new versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and more iconic DC characters. Lee’s special storytelling led to significant changes to the heroes’ origins, secret identities, and powers, which were all reimagined in his trademark Marvel-esque style. Uslan revealed that Lee would have loved to see those heroes get the animated treatment in a film – as it was one of his last bucket list items.

Stan Lee's Justice League Returns - Just Imagine

If you saw the animated feature film Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, Stan has an absolutely hysterical cameo in that. And that was literally in the waning months of his life. So he was thrilled to do that. But the other thing that was on Stan’s bucket list, he says Michael, these, Just Imagine heroes should be done in animation. He goes, I know with their name, and my name attached, they could be really commercially viable. It could open up new merchandise, it could be a whole new thing. And he always wanted to see them done in animation. And I think it’s something I would love to see.

Uslan shared he hoped that there would be enough interest generated from the upcoming Tales From Earth-6: A Celebration of Stan Lee anthology to lead to one of Lee’s last wishes coming true. Given the uniqueness of the Just Imagine heroes, they would lend themselves well to the DC animated world, as seeing them get the animated treatment would be a lot of fun.

DC can make Stan Lee’s last bucket list item come true by making the world of Just Imagine into an animated film. Doing so seems like a no-brainer as it would surely generate enough interest to make it worthwhile, as Lee’s name value and the different versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman appearing on the small (or big) screen seems like a brilliant idea. Until that happens, readers can see Stan Lee’s Justice League return in Tales From Earth-6: A Celebration of Stan Lee #1 by DC Comics, which arrives in comic book stores on Tuesday.
