God Of War: Christopher Judge’s Best TV And Movie Roles, Ranked According To IMDb

[ad_1]

One of the least surprising things about God of War Ragnarök‘s massive release this November is that Christopher Judge delivered another performance to remember as the former god slayer Kratos. Even though Ryan Hurst made waves with his portrayal of Thor in the game, it’s Judge who was once again singled out for praise by many critics.

For many, Judge’s distinctive baritone and powerful way of speaking will be familiar from his most famous television role as Teal’C of Chulak in Stargate: SG-1. However, that’s just a single highlight of the actor’s long and successful career on the big and small screen.

David Hewlett may be most known for his roles in The Shape of Water and Stargate Atlantis, but the latter isn’t his only connection with Christopher Judge. In 2007, the actor wrote, directed and starred in the twisted comedy A Dog’s Breakfast about a dysfunctional man who thinks he accidentally killed his sister’s fiancé.

Though Judge’s role in the indie movie is small, as he plays a man that the protagonist tries to set his sister up with in an effort to make her lose interest in the apparently deceased fiancé, it was enough to stoke more interest in the movie from Stargate fans, some of whom found plenty to like about its offbeat humor.

9/10 Sirens (1993-1995) – 6.9

Though Judge first embarked on his acting career in the late 80s, it wasn’t until 1994 that he received a notable regular appearance spot on the TV show Sirens. Not to be confused with the more recent comedy of the same name, Sirens was a grounded crime drama centered on three female Pittsburgh police officers.

The actor first appeared as Officer Richard Stiles in the first episode of the second season and quickly became a fixture. Interestingly, he was credited as D. Christopher Judge, a reference to his full name, Douglas Christopher Judge. Fans consider good writing to be one of Sirens‘ strong points and plotlines like the one where Stiles goes missing made for some of the more interesting ones.

8/10 Adventures From The Book Of Virtues (1996-2009) – 7.1

It’s no surprise that the distinctive voice that allowed him to play one of the coolest God of War characters quickly steered Judge towards voiceover work even relatively early into his career. With its simple premise of two schoolchildren learning important life lessons with animal companions, Adventures from the Book of Virtues is a highly rated by those who saw it as children.

Christopher Judge first appeared on the show in 2000, taking up the role of the friendly bison Plato from Kevin Michael Richardson. Though his predecessor appeared in more episodes of the show, with Judge portraying Plato in just 13 episodes, this may have been the first time many people heard the actor’s voice.

7/10 He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe (2002-2004) – 7.5

He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe (2002)

The early 2000s reboot of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe remains a fan favorite for many, and that’s thanks in part to a voice cast that was willing to go as over-the-top as the show’s fantastical premise deserved. Judge wasn’t a regular on the show, but his charismatic voice still played a part in that when he joined in 2003.

Judge played Zodak, an immensely powerful warrior on Eternia whose grudge against the Snake Men leads him to form a loose alliance with the protagonist but also brings them into conflict after his hatred for them causes him to endanger the planet. Many fans connected with this more complex dynamic, aided by a typically stand-out performance from Judge.

6/10 Raising Kratos (2019) – 7.8

Available On YouTube

Though perhaps not his most interesting role from a character perspective, Raising Kratos is a must-watch for fans of God of War and Judge’s performances in the games. The documentary details the incredible 5-year journey that lead up to the release of the immensely successful 2018 title.

Released on the PlayStation YouTube channel, it gives an insight into a ton of aspects of the game’s creation, including Cory Barlog’s directing style, the motion capture process, and, crucially, Judge’s delivery of one of the best voice acting performances in video games. Video game enthusiasts particularly praised the thoroughness of the documentary.

5/10 X-Men: Revolution (2000-2003) – 7.8

Available On Disney+

The main characters of X men Revolution

Though it suffered from unfavorable comparisons to its beloved predecessor, X-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men: Revolution has its fair share of fans, especially among those who watched it when they were children. It also featured one of Christopher Judge’s most prominent television voice-acting roles of his early career.

He plays a typically malevolent Magneto as he seeks to counter Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters by setting up his own academy of mutants to prepare them for a future war with regular humans. Judge has excelled at playing likable characters in recent years, but his deep voice also allows him to be a truly sinister villain.

4/10 Stargate: Atlantis (2004-2009) 8.1

Available On Prime Video

Tealc and Ronon stare at each other in Stargate Atlantis

Though Christopher Judge is mostly associated with the Stargate universe thanks to his iconic portrayal of Teal’C on Stargate SG-1, die-hard fans will also remember his appearances on the spin-off series. Stargate: Atlantis might be lower-rated than its counterpart, but its premise that saw the central cast forced to adapt and survive in a new galaxy meant there was still plenty of reason for fans to keep watching.

Teal’C had two memorable appearances in season 4 of the series, with his second bringing a fan-favorite moment when Ronon and Teal’C clash and get the chance to spar against one another. His contributions may have been brief, but they delighted SG-1 fans.

3/10 Final Space (2018-2021) – 8.2

Available On VRV

The titan Oreskis in Final Space

One of Judge’s most recent voiceover roles came in Final Space, an Adult Swim animated comedy about the space-exploring adventures of an astronaut named Gary and his ragtag crew. Though many complained about the characters initially, viewers quickly came to like the show for its surprisingly compelling storylines as well the fast-paced jokes.

Despite a stellar voice cast that included regular appearances from the likes of David Tennant and Ron Perlman, Judge still managed to be as magnetic as ever as the intimidating titan Oreskis. Sinister and manipulative, Oreskis is unpleasant even by the standards of corrupted titans, but it’s impossible not to enjoy Judge’s extravagantly villainous performance.

2/10 The Dark Knight Rises (2012) – 8.4

Available On HBO Max

Christopher Judge as a henchman in The Dark Knight Rises

The finale of Christopher Nolan’s critically-acclaimed Batman trilogy came with a brand new villain in the form of Tom Hardy’s Bane, and that meant some new henchmen too. Judge used his impressive physique and resonant voice to be the most memorable of any of them despite not even being named.

Although his contributions to The Dark Knight Rises were rather brief, he manages to make Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s young detective look small and harmless in comparison while carrying out Bane’s orders and intimidating the cops. Judge may have only been a small part of what made the movie so highly rated, but he still left an impression as usual.

1/10 Stargate SG-1 (1997-2007) – 8.4

Available On Prime Video

Teal'c on Stargate SG-1

Before God of War redefined many people’s perception of Christopher Judge, there was one role with which the actor was synonymous before then, and that was Teal’C in Stargate SG-1. Even though he was largely a strong, silent type, he managed to capture the hearts of many fans thanks to his stoic and reliable nature.

Though Stargate SG-1 is a show with a ton of interesting world-building and great action, it’s because of the characters that it became a cult classic that many rate extremely highly. Judge’s performance as the warrior from Chulak played no small part in that success.
