How I Met Your Father star Hilary Duff shares a clear favorite when asked who she wants to be the dad in the show, explaining her reasoning.

How I Met Your Father star Hilary Duff discusses who she’d like to be the dad in the comedy show. Following in the structure of How I Met Your Mother, the Hulu series centers around Sophie (Duff), focusing on her romances and friendships as she tells her son the story of how she fell in love with his dad. As How I Met Your Father season 2 continues, there have been a few options for who that person could be, including Jesse (Christopher Lowell), Sid (Suraj Sharma), and Drew (Josh Peck) – a recurring character that Sophie dated in the sitcom’s early episodes.

In an interview with Elite Daily, Duff was asked who she’d like to be revealed as the father of Sophie’s son. The actor says she’s rooting for Drew because she enjoys working with Peck, and she shares things in common with him. They’re both former child stars and parents. Duff’s quote is included below:

“I’m kind of rooting for Josh Peck, who plays Drew. He’s wonderful to work with. I think because we have both children and were child stars, we have a really nice connection.”

How I Met Your Father Hasn’t Made The Dad Reveal A Big Deal Yet

Sophie and Jesse make a video in How I Met Your Father

How I Met Your Mother ended on a divisive note, with a lot of unhappiness about the choices the writers made regarding the main characters. Because of its recency and overall approach, How I Met Your Father hasn’t come close to the same viewership investment, even though it’s introduced a few options for who the dad could be. For instance, Jesse appears the obvious choice as the father. However, the option seems simplistic, so the spinoff is likely to steer away from that direction. It’s already been hinted that Sophie eventually dates other people from her friend group.

Other than those teases, How I Met Your Father is relatively relaxed in how it unfolds the show’s big mystery. In its second outing, Sophie has more one-off dates. The attention also moves to establish the group outside of Sophie, showing the dynamic between Jesse and Valentina (Francia Raisa), among others.

Despite its creative takes, it’s hard to picture that the spinoff will last as long as its predecessor and build that same level of fandom over time. Part of that is because, with streaming, there aren’t regular ratings provided to indicate how popular a show is from one month to the next. Reviews for How I Met Your Father season 2 were also tepid, not showing much improvement over season 1. The best that can be hoped is that, no matter how long the Hulu series runs, the ending will be largely satisfying.
