In the latest issue of Star Wars: The High Republic, Luke’s Last Jedi criticisms of the Jedi Order are proven true hundreds of years before Episode I.

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for The High Republic #2In the latest issue of The High Republic, Luke Skywalker’s criticisms of the Jedi Order’s legacy in the Star Wars galaxy prove true hundreds of years before the events of The Phantom Menace. Taking place on the holy moon of Jedha at its prime, other groups dedicated to the Force are revealed with the Jedi simply being one voice among many. However, the pride and hubris of the Jedi Order can still be found at a time when the guardians of peace and justice should have been humbled.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

As seen in previous issues of The High Republic, multiple groups and sects studying the power of the Force and its various aspects have come together on Jedha for a gathering known as the Convocation. While the Jedi Order has a presence on the Pilgrim Moon and arguably has more visibility due to their service to the Republic, they don’t have the same kind of dominant influence and/or respect they’ll hold centuries later during the Skywalker saga. Before the Republic’s fall and the rise of the Empire, the Jedi Order was essentially the dominant power representing the light side of the Force. However, this new series confirms other paths logically existed.

That being said, the new Star Wars: High Republic #2 from Cavan Scott and Ario Anindito features certain Jedi Knights such as Vildar Mac who bristles at the idea that he must go further to earn the respect of others on Jedha. Wearing the trappings of a Jedi and wielding a lightsaber isn’t enough. As such, this type of pride sets the stage for the Jedi Order’s massive hypocrisy and hubris during the Skywalker Saga.

The Jedi Order Always Had Pride Problems in Star Wars

Jedi Order Peceptions During High Republic

During Luke Skywalker’s limited time training Rey in The Last Jedi, the son of Darth Vader revealed a harsh yet very real truth about the Jedi Order: “Now that they’re extinct, the Jedi are romanticized, deified. But if your strip away the myth and look at their deeds, the legacy of the Jedi is failure. Hypocrisy, hubris“. As such, this issue proves the same kind of hubris was just as prevalent in the ancient past as it was hundreds of years later. It’s certainly a compromising trait seeing as how it ultimately led to the Jedi Order’s demise and the rise of the Empire ruled by the Sith.

At any rate, it will be exciting to see how Vildar Mac’s journey continues on Jedha. Having only just arrived to the Pilgrim Moon, it’s clear he has a lot to learn before he can be an effective protector of the light amidst so many others who’re just as dedicated to the Force in the Star Wars galaxy, albeit using a variety of different methods and expressions. Star Wars: The High Republic #2 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
