In the latest issue of Star Wars: Hidden Empire, the galaxy’s brand-new superweapon presents a massive danger to both the Jedi and the Sith Lords.

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Hidden Empire #2In the latest issue of Star Wars: Hidden Empire, it’s been confirmed that the galaxy’s new superweapon is a threat to both the Jedi and the Sith Lords, causing a major disturbance in the Force for all members of the light and dark.

Set in the years between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the crime syndicate Crimson Dawn has emerged as a major power that threatens both Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. As such, their leader Lady Qi’ra intends to use the Fermata Cage to topple their rule over the galaxy once and for all.

As seen in the new Star Wars: Hidden Empire #2 from Charles Soule and Steven Cummings, it’s been confirmed that the Fermata Cage is an ancient device designed by Darth Momin, the same Sith architect of old whose revived spirit helped Lord Vader build his dark fortress of Mustafar. As revealed by Crimson Dawn’s Archivist, the Fermata Cage is a dark side matrix containing a multitude of miniature black holes, granting the ability to freeze events or beings in moments of time when powered by the Force. As such, it becomes a massive beacon felt by Force users across the galaxy when activated, a huge disturbance that Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and even Jedi Master Yoda all seem to fear.

Qi’ra has claimed that she intends to unfreeze an ancient Sith Lord, hoping that this unknown dark sider will seek to destroy Palpatine and Darth due to the Sith’s Rule of Two. As such, stopping Qi’ra and securing the Fermata Cage has become the Empire’s top priority. It’s a very rare instance where the Emperor seems to be genuinely afraid.

That being said, although the Jedi are not Qi’ra’s direct targets with the Fermata Cage, the device could still pose a major threat to Luke and Yoda if she succeeds in unfreezing an ancient Sith. The Jedi would be in just as much danger from a new Sith as they currently are from Palpatine and Vader. As such, perhaps Luke and the Rebellion will try to locate the disturbance he felt, leading to a new altercation between father and son. It would certainly be an interesting scenario if both Luke and Darth Vader were going after the same threat.

Regardless, it’s already known thanks to the established Star Wars canon and the events of Return of the Jedi that Qi’ra won’t succeed in the destruction of the Sith Lords. However, it will be exciting to see how close she gets and just how big a galactic impact she’ll make with Crimson Dawn before she’s defeated.
