Suicide Squad & Guardians Items Donated to Charity Auction by James Gunn

James Gunn donates two cast-signed items from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and The Suicide Squad to a celebrity auction for charity.

Director James Gunn has donated items from The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to a charity auction. Gunn originally began his career as a screenwriter, creating the screenplays for horror-tinged films like Tromeo and JulietScooby-Doo, and Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead. After making his feature directorial debut with 2006’s Slither, Gunn almost immediately jumped into the world of superheroes. His sophomore feature was 2010’s Super starring Rainn Wilson as a regular guy who decides to become a hero called the Crimson Bolt. Super became the calling card that launched Gunn into the comic book big leagues.

In 2014, his third film was the massively successful Guardians of the Galaxy, applying his typical sarcastic humor to a lesser-known Marvel property about a motley crew of spacefarers. He went on to direct that film’s sequel in 2017. Most recently, he helmed the DC universe sequel/reboot The Suicide Squad, which premiered in theaters and simultaneously on HBO Max this August. He will also direct seven episodes of the Peacemaker spinoff series for HBO Max. Although James Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after some distasteful old tweets resurfaced, he was later reinstated and will be helming that film as well, which is set for release in May 2023.

On his Instagram, Gunn detailed the items he has donated to a Veteran’s Day eBay charity auction for Homes for Our Troops, an organization that builds custom homes for injured veterans. The first is a Star-Lord Zune signed by Gunn, Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Kurt Russell (Ego), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Elizabeth Debicki (Ayesha), Sean Gunn (Rocket Racoon on set), and Pom Klementieff (Mantis). The second is a shooting script from The Suicide Squad signed by him, creator John Ostrander,  Margot Robbie (Harley Quin), John Cena (Peacemaker), Idris Elba (Bloodsport), Peter Capaldi (Thinker), Joel Kinnaman (Col. Rick Flag), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher 2), Pete Davidson (Blackguard), Nathan Fillion (T.D.K.), Michael Rooker (Savant), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Taika Waititi (Ratcatcher), David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Sean Gunn (Weasel/Calendar Man), Flula Borg (Javelin), Steve Agee (John Economos/King Shark on set), and Mayling Ng (Mongal). The auction for the items is currently running, and the highest bid will be crowned the winner on Sunday, November 14. The items are likely to go for a pretty penny, and in fact, at the time of writing, the Suicide Squad script is already up to $1,195. The Guardians Zune is even higher at $2,175.

Despite the high price tag, for fans who collect signatures, this is a real boon. Essentially, the only cast members who are missing are those who provided voice-only characters like Sylvester Stallone (King Shark) from The Suicide Squad and Vin Diesel (Groot), and Bradley Cooper (Rocket Racoon) from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Those actors wouldn’t have been on set to interact with the director or other stars, so that makes sense, though it is an unfortunate oversight.
