Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Rep Calls Out ‘The Sun’ Over Their Apology for Columnist’s Article

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is calling out the British newspaper The Sun over the apology they gave for a recent opinion article they published about the couple.

Top Gear broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson received major backlash for the shocking article he wrote about Meghan and he later apologized for his words.

The column in The Sun came following the release of her Netflix docu-series, in which he suggested she should “parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.”

The Sun finally released an apology on Friday (December 23), which prompted a response from the Sussexes’ rep.

“Columnists’ opinions are their own, but as a publisher, we realise that with free expression comes responsibility. We at The Sun regret the publication of this article and we are sincerely sorry. The article has been removed from our website and archives,” the paper said.

The couple’s rep has responded.

“The fact that the Sun has not contacted the Duchess of Sussex to apologise shows their intent. This is nothing more than a PR stunt,” the rep told The Guardian.

“While the public absolutely deserves the publication’s regrets for their dangerous comments, we wouldn’t be in this situation if the Sun did not continue to profit off and exploit hate, violence and misogyny. A true apology would be a shift in their coverage and ethical standards for all. Unfortunately, we’re not holding our breath,” the rep added.
