R. Kelly Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison, to Be Served Concurrently with His 30 Year Sentence

R. Kelly was just sentenced to 20 years in prison at a Chicago federal courtroom on Thursday (February 23) after being found guilty months ago.

The 56-year-old disgraced singer is already serving a 30 year prison sentence from his 2021 conviction on racketeering and sex trafficking charges.

His 20 year sentence handed out today is in regard to his child pornography and enticement of a minor charges brought upon him last year. 19 of the 20 years of this sentence will be served “concurrently,” meaning he’ll serve them at the same time as his current jail sentence. The remaining year would be served after the current sentence is complete, CNN reports. The prosecution requested a 25 year sentence that would be served after the completion of his current 30 year prison stint.

Robert Kelly is a serial sexual predator who, over the course of many years, specifically targeted young girls and went to great lengths to conceal his abuse of Jane and other minor victims,” the prosecution wrote of this case. “To this day, and even following the jury verdict against him, Kelly refuses to accept responsibility for his crimes.”

In 2020, he was allegedly attacked in jail. He was then put on suicide watch.
