Woke actress Alyssa Milano is ARRESTED outside the White House

Alyssa Milano was one of the more than 20 protesters arrested outside the White House on Tuesday afternoon as they demanded the federal government protect voting rights.

Photos from the protest, organized by the progressive group People for the American Way show the 48-year-old actress leading a march to the White House before being arrested by U.S. Park Police for refusing to clear the area.

She held up her arm in protest as she was led away, and shared regular Twitter updates on being taken in to custody. It is unclear if Milano herself was posting these updates, or someone else sharing social media posts on her behalf.  No updates have been given on whether she remains in jail, or if she has been freed.

The activist actress later confirmed her arrest on Twitter, writing: ‘I was just arrested for demanding the Biden Administration and the Senate use their mandate to protect voting rights.

‘Stand with me and @PeopleFor and tell the Senate and White House that voting rights shouldn’t depend on where you live #DontMuteOurVote.’

She was one of more than 20 activists arrested at the protest, after a US Park Police officer warned them that they risked arrest under a Washington D.C. misdemeanor law that prohibits crowding or obstructing streets or sidewalks, according to Deadline.

She wrote that she was ‘arrested for demanding the Biden Administration and the Senate to use their mandate to protect voting rights’

The protest came one day before the Senate is set to decide whether to move forward with the Freedom to Vote Act, which would make it easier to register to vote, establishing a 15-day minimum early voting window and make Election Day a federal holiday.

It would also require that states provide same-day voter registration at all polling places by 2024, and make a variety of cards and documents valid for in-person voting identification.

The push for the legislation comes after Senate Democrats blocked the For the People Act in June, and are once again threatening to filibuster this bill.

‘We came back to the White House to deliver a clear message to President Biden: We need actions that match the urgency of his words on voting rights – and time is running out,’ Ben Jealous, the current president of the progressive group said in a message on Twitter before he, too, was arrested.

‘The Freedom to Vote Act has to pass now if we are going to protect voting rights in the next election for all of us: for black voters and brown voters, for women, for younger voters, voters with disabilities and working people of all backgrounds.’

He added that Biden ‘needs to step up, or voting rights will die on his watch.’

Milano, who serves as a board member for People for the American Way, also said that federal laws are need to protect the right to vote, invoking the words of the late Rep. John Lewis, a Democrat from Georgia.

‘John Lewis told us: “The vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society. You must use it, because it is not guaranteed. You can lose it,'” she said in a statement to The Hill.

‘States across the country are trying to take it away from so many people in a cynical power grab. We can’t let them.

‘We need federal law right now to protect voting rights for all Americans, no matter which state they happen to live in.

‘It’s a cause that’s worth getting arrested [for].’

She helped lead the group of protesters in the march, holding up a sign demanding the Senate passes the Freedom to Vote Act

Milano has pushed for progressive policies for years, most recently joining a group of celebrities in writing an open letter to the leaders at the United Nations General Assembly to increase COVID vaccine accessibility worldwide.

‘COVID-19 is now a manmade pandemic of apathy,’ the group of more than 75 celebrities wrote in the letter, obtained by Just Jared. ‘Only 2 percent of people in low-income countries have received a single dose, leaving the world’s most vulnerable to face COVID with no protection.

‘This situation also lets new variants, like Delta, emerge and ravage the lives of millions,’ they continued, saying: ‘We are joining with CARE to call on global leaders to make 7 billion vaccine doses available before the end of 2021, and an additional 7 billion doses by mid-2022 to fully vaccinate 70 percent of the world by next summer.

‘We can save millions of lives – and trillions in further economic damage-by meeting this moment with the resources and political will needed to end COVID-19 for everyone, everywhere. Because none of us are safe, until all of us are safe.’

And in June, Milano made headlines when she said she is ‘considering’ running for Congress in 2024, but would make a decision after the 2022 midterm elections.

DailyMail.com last year received photos of a police presence at her house after she and her husband allegedly called the cops on a ‘male with a long rifle’ – that wound up to be a teen with an air gun, sparking criticism of the actress, who has called for police to be defunded

But the actress has faced some controversy in the past, with her neighbors reporting last year that she and her husband, Dave Bugliari, 39, dialed 911 when they heard what they believed to be gunshots on their 1.39-acre property. 

They husband allegedly told the emergency hotline the sound ‘scared their dogs’ and made them feel like the gunman was nearby.

A description was given of a suspect to the officers who was ‘male, 40-years old, with long rifle’.

The two, who have been married since 2009, were also concerned that it may be someone stalking the former Charmed and Who’s The Boss star.

But it wound up to be a teen with an air gun, and Milano faced criticism for calling the cops amid her calls to defund the police. 

Milano later denied that she called the cops, instead saying it was her neighbor who made the initial 911 call ‘after seeing a person dressed in black holding a rifle behind my home where I live with my young children and husband’. 

She did, however, admit that her talent agent husband made a follow up phone call to 911 to check on the status of the officers’ arrival, but said they they showed up as he was on the line. 

‘Rightwing media & trolls have decided that they should target me,’ the actress said in a tweet after DailyMail.com published photos showing seven Ventura County Sheriffs’ vehicles, one K-9 unit, a police helicopter and one Los Angeles Fire Department team guarding her home for at least three hours. 

In her three-page statement, she said she and her family was getting ready to watch the Giants football game when the neighbor spotted the man, which she said ‘is a rare sight in our parts’. 

She said she and her family ‘sheltered in place’ until the area was secure. 

The actress went on to thank the ‘brave men and women of the Ventura County Sheriffs as well as all the other officers who came to protect and serve our neighborhood. 

‘These are exactly the type of situations that police officers are trained for and should be responding to, and we will always support police having the resources they need for appropriate policing actions,’ she added. 

Alyssa said that she would love to see ‘equally trained non-police professionals respond to addiction and mental health crises and non violent events’.
