A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in a shopping mall parking lot Thursday in Montclair.

The shooting in the San Bernardino County community was reported at about 8 p.m. outside the Montclair Place shopping center. The gunfire might have stemmed from a fight that began inside the mall and spilled outside, investigators said.

Family members identified the deceased teen as Omar Espinoza, a student at Diamond Ranch High School in Pomona who liked to visit the mall.

“My son is beautiful,” said mother Leticia Rivera. “My son is everything for me.”

Rivera said she rushed to the hospital after the shooting.

“They let me see him,” she said. “I hugged him.”

A family friend said Omar was walking past the Target at the shopping center when gunfire erupted in the parking lot.

Yellow police tape blocked off part of the parking lot near a movie theater and book store.

One person was hospitalized in critical condition with an apparent stab wound.

No arrests were reported early Friday.
