WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) — An inmate was recaptured after he escaped from custody while being loaded into a sheriff’s department transport and ran into a West Hollywood neighborhood Friday, authorities said.
The inmate was found in the 6300 block of Glade Avenue in Woodland Hills around 5:30 p.m. after he escaped from deputies and scaled a station fence, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
The escape happened while the inmate was handcuffed and prompted a massive search.
The escape occurred around 6:10 a.m. Friday at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station jail as the inmate was being loaded to a LASD transportation bus.
Deputies immediately set up a perimeter and began combing the area for the suspect.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot, 4-inch tall white man wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, white shoes and was said to be handcuffed.
The charge that the inmate had been in jail for was not disclosed.
The bus was going to take him to court at the time of the escape, LASD said.
