Brits DRENCHED as Met Office warns of heavy, thunderous rain this week

BRITAIN is set to be soaked by days of heavy rain and thunderstorms in a miserable week of “unsettled conditions”.

Brits enjoyed deliciously warm climes over the last few days, with highs of 24C recorded in London and the south-east on Sunday.

The Met Office said downpours first hit around 3am on this morning and that much of Britain will experience rainy weather by the middle of this week.

And the miserable spells will be interrupted by bouts of thunder as wind speeds increase.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain for most, some heavy with a risk of thunder. Windy on Wednesday and Thursday with further rain or showers. Temperatures near average.”

  • Forecast for tomorrow

    Tomorrow morning northern England and south-eastern Scotland will see spells of heavy rain.

    Other areas will see sunny spells with the risk of a shower. By the afternoon the rain will clear northern England and south-eastern Scotland.

    Sunshine and showers through the afternoon. Fresh westerly winds.

  • Tonight’s weather

    Through the night Wales, eastern Scotland, northern and central England will be overcast with showers merging into longer spells of more persistent rain.

    Northern Ireland and western Scotland will see clear spells. Southern England will see clear spells and showers.

    A moderate westerly breeze.

  • Platinum Jubilee could see ‘hottest week of the YEAR’ 

    BRITS could swelter through the hottest day of the year before the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations – but there are fears the weekend may be a washout.

    Temperatures next week could exceed the current 2022 high of 27.5C, as Brits prepare to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at the start of June.

    British Weather Services senior meteorologist Jim Dale said the heat could “ramp up” in the days before Brits mark the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

    He said: “I think as we approach that weekend it might well ramp up… on the run into that weekend we might see something that’s a little bit warmer – maybe even very warm.

  • Bank Holiday to be “warmest weekend of the year’ with temperatures hitting 27C

    According to Weather forecaster Jim Dale speaking to Express.co.uk, the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend will be a scorcher.

    According to this expert, it is set to be the “warmest weekend of the year” with “near universal” sunshine across the country.

    Temperatures are expected reach a sweltering 27C.

    This will be good news for anyone looking to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, as parties take place across the nation.

  • June could be hottest EVER, bookies say

    Next month could go down as the hottest June on record, according to Ladbrokes.

    With hot weather on the way over the coming days, the bookies have already cut odds from 5/1 to just 2/1 on next month playing host to the hottest June EVER.

    Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “A record-breaking hot June will more than make up for what looks set to be a miserable end to May, and the odds suggest that’s exactly what we could have.”

  • 150mph Atlantic winds to batter the UK this week

    In a strange event for this time of year, rapid and powerful winds from the North Atlantic are set to smash into Britain this week. 

    These winds will be coupled with rain and the potential of thunder. 

    In an annoucment, the Met Office said: “A 150mph jet stream will cross the north Atlantic to bring an unseasonably windy spell to the UK midweek.

    “Coastal gales are likely in the northwest on Wednesday and Thursday, there’s still some uncertainty in the details so keep an eye on the forecast over the coming days.”

  • Tuesday outlook: Sunshine and showers across most of the country

    The weather will not change much as we head into Tuesday, with the country experiencing, cloud, sunny spells and patches of rain.

    Thunderstorms are also on the cards, with the Met Office reporting that they could impact the country at any moment.

    It will be a windy day also, as 150mph winds from the North Atlantic smash into the UK.

    According to the Met Office, the Northern and Western areas of the country are set for a rather wet evening, as rain moves in from the west.

    This evening could also see thunderstorms batter the UK, before clearing up later in the week.

    While this week is set to be mild and wet, next week will be warmer. Good news for those looking to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

    Keep an eye out for mushroom growth, if there are any, pull them out.

    Mow the grass once it is dry, but be careful to not cut it too short. The longer blades protect the ground from drying up.
