I live in a 20ft shipping container after deciding work life wasn’t for me

DECIDING to walk away from a life you’ve spent years building can be a scary task.

But one man did just that by creating a tiny home in the woods using a 20ft shipping container.

Lance, from British Columbia, Canada, decided to give up working life in order to live among nature.

In a YouTube video posted to Living Big in a Tiny House, Lance revealed he completed the entire home and interiors for less than £9,000 ($14,000.)

“I was working up in Alberta years ago, and just decided the working life wasn’t for me and wanted the lifestyle change,” he explained.

He added: “The hours were long, working for someone else, yes I was trading my time for good money but it wasn’t really worth it.”

Lance found inspiration from the channel he was invited onto to discuss his tiny home – and decided to purchase a shipping container.

He added that his mum had gotten sick so he wanted to be closer to her and spend some time alone after she passed – and a shipping container was the perfect choice.

The duck egg blue exterior of the shipping container almost makes the container look like a countryside cottage, but the silver lock bars give it away.

Lance extended the shipping container by 4ft to make room for his full-sized double bed which features three pull out drawers to maximise storage.

The tiny home has a fully working kitchen with a fridge and freezer, wooden counter tops and white cupboards to brighten the space.

There’s also a full-sized stand up shower in the home – but no toilet.

Instead, Lance decided to put the toilet in an outhouse close to his shipping container home.

Lance was working in the oil industry designing roads but now makes LED hula hoops form his tiny home.

“Tiny home living has also really allowed me to do what I want, to make money how I want to make money,” he added.

And Lance doesn’t plan to stop building – as he is hoping to convert a van for living as well.
