‘The Flash’ Director Gives A New Look At Early Days Of Pre-Production

After being delayed nearly an entire year, The Flash is finally set to hit theaters this June. In honor of its upcoming release, director Andy Muschietti has released a new look at the early stages of pre-production for the film back when he first signed on for the project over three years ago.

The Flash has had an infamously troubled production. The earliest attempts at a modern Flash film extend back to 2014, where Warner Bros. announced its plan for a connected DCEU with a Flash movie starring Miller set to release in 2018. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, best known for their film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, were initially set to write and direct the film before leaving to work on Solo: A Star Wars Story. After failing to secure another director for the project, the film was delayed indefinitely until Muschietti was brought onto the project in late 2019. Even after production began, the film was not free of troubles. Most recently, Miller has gotten themselves into hot water by committing a number of high profile controversies including a burglary charge in Vermont. Despite pressure from fans to delay or potentially even cancel the film, The Flash opens on June 16, 2023.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.

In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.
