What are the Most Popular Forms of Entertainment in the USA?
The United States of America holds the cultural dominion of the world today. American media dominates the entire world, and most of the biggest musicians, filmmakers, video game developers, etc. come from the USA. As far as the show business industry goes, no other country can compete with the United States.
The question on our minds is “What are the most popular forms of entertainment in the United States?” In this article, we are going to go through several entertainment mediums, and discuss which are the most popular in the United States.
The Gaming Industry
The gaming industry is relatively new in the popular zeitgeist. However, despite this, since the 80s, which is when gaming truly took off, the industry has grown drastically, and rapidly, becoming a multi-billion-dollar business in the 21st century. American video game developers are some of the biggest in the world, with only the Japanese and South Korean gaming industries even coming close (though still incomparable). The rise of eSports in recent years has also done wonders to push the American gaming industry forward.
A subsection of the gaming industry, which is slowly getting traction in the United States, especially in the past couple of years, is the iGaming industry, or online gambling. Some might argue that online gambling is not a part of the gaming industry, but rather the gambling industry, and while that is a valid point, there seems to be a lot of crossovers between video game fans, and players at online casinos.
Unfortunately for many of them, not a lot of American states have legalized online casinos, but the ones that have, have seen a huge boom in the industry. New Jersey is one of the first states that legalized iGaming, and the best online casinos in New Jersey are generating quite a bit of profit and seeing an increase in traffic.
The Film/Television Industry
Of course, we can’t talk about the most popular entertainment in the United States without talking about the Film/Television industry. The American film industry is, by far, the biggest film industry in the world, and American movies are watched across the globe. Whether it be popular, blockbuster, action flicks, superhero spectacles which seem to hold the public’s attention today, or Oscar-bait dramas, American films are made to hold the attention of the public around the world.
The same can be argued for American television, with shows like Game of Thrones, Seinfeld, Friends, and Chernobyl, getting international acclaim. Casual audiences of both television and film will be familiar with Hollywood actresses and actors far more than they would be familiar with the actors and actresses of their own countries.
The sports Industry
America also boasts one of the biggest sports industries in the world. The National Basketball League Finals, despite being a national event, draws in a huge international crowd, and in fact, is one of the topmost watched events in the basketball world. The same can be said for the Major League Baseball Finals, and, of course, the American Super Bowl.
It is impossible to talk about American sports without mentioning American Football. When it comes to viewership, American Football is, by far, the most watched sport in the country (though not the most played). The Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events, not just in the United States, but in the world in general, drawing in a huge crowd, not just of sports fans, but casual fans, and even non-fans, simply due to the spectacle that the event presents.
