Turkey and Syria hit by new 6.4-magnitude earthquake

A powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Turkey-Syria border region Monday, two weeks after twin earthquakes devastated the region, causing vast destruction and killing tens of thousands of people.

The quake, almost as forceful as the 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that left the two countries in disarray earlier this month, brought further despair to the already ravaged Hatay province in southern Turkey.

Monday’s aftershock was measured at a depth of 1.2 miles, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center said.

This is a developing story.
