The off-campus house where four University of Idaho students were slain in their beds has been boarded up and will be torn down, according to a report.

The Moscow rental home on King Road where Bryan Kohberger allegedly fatally stabbed Kaylee Gonclaves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20 and Kernodle’s boyfriend Ethan Chapin, 20, on Nov. 13 now has plywood over its doors and windows and the grounds are surrounded by a makeshift fence, according to a Fox News report.

University of Idaho President Scott Green said the home owners gave the property over to the school and said it will soon be demolished, but in the meantime, the house is still constantly monitored by security.

“This is a healing step and removes the physical structure where the crime that shook our community was committed,” Green said in the statement.

Green said the move comes as they try to limit attempts to “sensationalize” the scene of the crime.

He said the college plans to install a memorial and “healing garden” in honor of the slain students and others who have passed in unrelated incidents. The location for the memorial has not yet been chosen.

“We will never forget Xana, Ethan, Madison and Kaylee, and I will do everything in my power to protect their dignity and respect their memory,” Green said. “Together we will rebuild and continue to support each other.”

Kohberger, 28, was pursuing a doctoral degree in criminal justice at Washington State University in Pullman about 10 miles from where the murders occurred.

In an interview with a local outlet, Kohberger’s friends described him as a one-time heroin-addicted bully who wanted to dominate and ultimately alienated his pals.
