Winter storm bringing snow to the Northeast, New England this week

[ad_1]

It’s been a relatively quiet winter in the Northeast and New England, but all of that is about to change as a snowstorm is expected to impact the region starting Monday night and lasting through Wednesday.

Blockbuster snow totals aren’t expected, but there is an increasing likelihood that several inches could fall in interior New York state and across portions of New England.

Freezing rain could lead to issues in the Upper Midwest

Before reaching the East Coast, the storm will sweep through the Upper Midwest on Monday.

As it does, the FOX Forecast Center expects it to meet up with cold air in place and could produce a swath of ice and snow.

Winter Storm Watches have been issued in advance of the threat.

Across southern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and central Michigan, freezing rain and ice will be the predominant precipitation type.

The FOX Forecast Center says those areas could see up to a quarter-inch of ice, leading to treacherous travel conditions and power outages.

Storm moves into Northeast, New England Monday night

On Monday night and continuing into Tuesday, snow will spread into the Northeast as a new area of low pressure develops south of Long Island, New York.

The Tuesday morning commute is expected to slow going from New York City and points north along the I-95 corridor in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Snow is expected to continue through the day, except in New York City and points south, as well as along the Massachusetts coast, where the snow will change over to rain.

The storm will then wind down Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
