r/netflix – This is how you can watch Netflix in 1440p on your QHD monitor!

I’m not sure how many people know this but if you watch Netflix in Google Chrome and Firefox you will only get a maximum resolution of 720p because of software-level DRM/Silverlight. 1080p and above is only supported via Microsoft Edge and the official Netflix app for Windows. If you own a 1440p monitor (gamers) there’s a way you can watch in 1440p instead of 1080p stretched out which looks blurry.

Download this free HEVC extension:

Once you install it you can check your resolution and bit rate during playback by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + D. You might have to give it a few seconds for the resolution to load completely but it should show the resolution as 2560×1440. This only works if the show is in 4k (will downscale to 1440p). You can’t watch a show recorded in 1080p and watch in in 1440p. I could only get this working in Microsoft Edge. The Netflix app for Windows still played in 1080p for me after downloading the extension. I just watched an episode of Stranger Things Season 4 and the difference is noticeable especially in faces.
