Aussie Green wins LGPA Tour’s Women’s World Championship

Australia’s Hannah Green has taken out the LGPA Tour’s Women’s World Championship with a one-stroke victory in Singapore.

Starting the day two shots off the lead in second place, Green birdied the final three holes to post a 5-under-par 67 to clinch her fourth win on the LPGA Tour.

She finished the tournament on 13-under, a shot ahead of France’s Céline Boutier.

Green, the 2019 US Women’s PGA champion, drained a pressure-cooker 30-foot uphill putt on the final hole to snatch victory from Boutier.

Japan’s Yuna Nishimura, South Korea’s Mi Hyang Lee and Canadian Brooke Henderson were tied for third on 9-under.

Nishimura’s countrywoman Ayaka Furue had led after three rounds, but a 3-over 75 left her in a share of eighth place on 7-under.

In total, Green made six birdies against one bogey – on the par-four 10th hole — at Sentosa Golf Club.

World number three Boutier, who would have usurped American Lilia Vu for the top ranking had she won, also carded a closing 67.

Green’s latest triumph also served as redemption of sorts after Green suffered a heartbreaking runner-up finish at Sentosa Golf Club previously.

“A few years ago, I almost had this trophy on my hands and made two bogeys coming down the last [stretch],” Green said.

“So it’s almost like it was meant to be today for me holing those two putts on the last two holes.

“I’m so happy to have this in my hands.”

Grace Kim was tied for 25th place on 1-under, a stroke ahead of another Australian Minjee Lee.

Sarah Kemp and Stephanie Kyriacou finished at 3-over.

Minjee and Min Woo Lee will appear on Australian Story on Monday at 8pm AEDT on ABC TV, ABC iview and YouTube.
