DC dogs Krypto and Ace are getting their own game, apparently

We all love a good video game dog. From Fallout 4’s Dogmeat to Undertale’s Greater Dog, to Animal Crossing’s Isabelle and the rhythm game icon of PaRappa the Rapper fame. But let’s face it — Nintendogs is really where it’s at, and no kids game about dogs will supersede its status.

But there’s a new entrant in the field. Announced at the kids content portion of DC FanDome on Saturday, DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace will let you play as Krypto the “super-dog” and Ace the “bat-hound.” It’s slated for release in 2022, to complement the Warner Bros. kids movie that will come out that summer.

Super-pets is being developed by Outright Games, the same company that has made game versions of well-known family friendly franchises like Peppa Pig, Jumanji, The Addams Family, and Spirit (a part of the horse girl canon). It’s not their first kids game starring dogs, as they’ve also adapted the dreaded Paw Patrol franchise.

Krypto and Ace will be taking to the skies to “protect the animal population of Metropolis from a new and looming threat,” according to Outright Games’ website. The game will “put players in the paws” of these super pets.

In the trailer, Krypto leaps off the side of the building, wearing his lil Superman cape, before announcing here we gooo” in an oddly deep voice. What follows is a standard looking rail-action game, wherein Krypto shoots lasers out of his eyeballs at oncoming machinery. He also runs through the streets punching things. Graphically, the game looks about on par with Outright Games’ other titles, with its appealingly bright streets and simple 3D design. Kids will probably love it.

I have many questions. If Krypto has heat vision, why is he only saving the city’s pets? Is he also weak to kryptonite? Are he and Ace in love? Can I teach my own dog how to punch? I will never find out.
