ROBBINS, Ill. (WLS) — Three 13-year-olds were arrested Sunday in connection to a fatal crash while in a stolen car, police said.

One witness describes the seconds that lead to the deadly collision.

“A group of boys, maybe teenagers, stole a vehicle,” the witness said. “A guy was coming out of his parking lot down there, hit him, he [spun] out three or four times, guys got out of the truck and ran.”

Robbins police noticed a late model Kia with a broken driver’s side window driving northbound on Kedzie Avenue around 2:30 p.m.

The officer alerted dispatch concerning the suspicious vehicle and attempted to drive in the direction of the Kia. However, the officer immediately noticed smoke from what appeared to be a vehicle accident blocks ahead.

When the officer arrived to the scene, he noticed the stolen KIA was involved in a fatal crash with a late model Ford Taurus.

Witnesses said the man was just leaving his driveway near St. Peter Claver Mission Church on South Claire Boulevard at the time.

“He was struck, unfortunately, and it’s terrible,” the witness said.

The Robbins Fire Department was dispatched and responded to the scene where a 71-year-old man was pulled from the Ford.

“First arriving unit found one vehicle, heavy damage in a ditch with one person still inside the vehicle,” said Nic Malley Sr., Chief for Robbins Fire Department.

He was transported to Christ Hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said.

Officials have not yet identified that 71-year-old.

Witnesses said the crashed happened in front of the victim’s home.

Three teens that were inside the stolen KIA were arrested, police said.
