Chicago Auto Show First Look for Charity fundraiser kicks off

CHICAGO (WLS) — The Chicago Auto Show’s First Look for Charity kicked off the city’s premiere automotive event Friday night.

Shiny new cars provide quite the back drop for a black tie event like no other.

“This is a bucket list and we’re checking it off. But I think we’ll be back!” said Pam Sutton of Darien.

Guests were the first to see the glitz and glam of the best and newest cars at this year’s Auto Show.

“It’s an amazing event. We come every year. We just love everything about it” said Kathy Stark of Crown Point.

The First Look for Charity stands as one of Chicago’s greatest one-day fundraisers. Over the past 31 years, the benefit has raised nearly $60 million for 18 local charities.

“Me and my friend here are volunteers for Misircordia. It is a great organization that helps people with special needs with housing and it’s just a great place,” said Daniel Sundt of Glencoe.

“Oh incredible! We have supported Habitat for Humanity and all the charities. Everybody is able to do what they can to help. You cannot feel bad doing good,” said Gloria Ludwig of Des Plaines.

Guests were treated to a delicious catered feast from more than 20 notable Chicago restaurants.

“We are so excited to bring back the First Look for Charity to two different halls this year,” said general manager Jennifer Morand. “It’s almost like you’re experiencing from a pre-pandemic level. There’s gourmet food and beverages. People get dressed up to the nines in black tie attire. But it’s all for a great cause.”

Electric and hybrid vehicles took center stage this year. People didn’t just admire the supercars, but tried them out themselves on simulators.

Guests had the chance to win either this year’s Honda CRV Hybrid or a Subaru Crosstrek. ABC7’s own Ravi Baichwal and Judy Hsu announced the lucky winners.

The Chicago Auto Show is held February 11 – 20 at McCormick Place.
