SWAT situation in Lakeview after 3 dogs reported shot, 1 fatally

CHICAGO (WLS) — There is a large Chicago police and SWAT presence in Lakeview Tuesday afternoon after three dogs were reported shot.

Police said SWAT responded to the 1000-block of West George Street for reports of an armed individual in a residence. Police and SWAT members at the scene are still trying to determine whether that man is inside one of the residences on that block as of 4 p.m.

The incident started shortly before 2 p.m. when the city got an emergency phone call saying someone shot three dogs near Seminary and George in Lakeview.

The shooting happened near Harriet Tubman Elementary School shortly before dismissal, prompting the school to be placed on lockdown.

Students were dismissed directly to their parents and guardians, with Chicago police overseeing the dismissal process.

Officials said one dog was killed and two were taken to veterinary hospitals to be treated in unknown condition.

Police have not released any further details about this incident.
