Rapper A$AP Rocky facing firearm assault charges in connection with 2021 shooting in Hollywood

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Rapper A$AP Rocky has been charged with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm stemming from a November shooting in the Hollywood area that left an acquaintance with a minor injury.

The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was initially arrested in April at Los Angeles International Airport.

“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” said District Attorney Gascón. “My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.”

He’s scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in downtown Los Angeles.
