‘Mullet streaker’ arrested after belly flopping into pond at golf tournament

A man known as the “mullet streaker” was arrested at the Phoenix Open golf event on Friday after he jumped onto the course wearing only Speedos and shoes, then belly-flopped into a pond.

Sean Patrick McConnell, 27, allegedly jumped from the general admissions bleachers at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and ran onto the course with his arms outstretched.

McConnell, sporting a lengthy mullet haircut, then appeared to pole-dance on a flagstick at the 16th hole. From there, he continued through a player access tunnel to the 17th hole.

Videos taken by Tyler Drake from ArizonaSports.com and shared on Twitter show McConnell interrupting play, running and waving his arms to encourage the audience to cheer him on.

McConnell then ignored commands by police to exit the course, and instead ran toward the water hazard and belly-flopped into the water. He ignored police commands to exit the water and swam toward the center.

However, he eventually surrendered to the police and was taken into custody. McConnell was booked on charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct and failure to obey orders from a law enforcement officer, according to Law & Crime.

“He eventually complied and swam to the 18th hole where he was placed under arrest,” Scottsdale, Ariz., police said in a statement.

McConnell was not injured and declined medical treatment. Despite his nickname, he was never at any point naked during the stunt.

“He was never in physical distress while in the water,” police said. “He was never naked.”

Not only is getting into the water illegal but reclaimed water is not meant for human consumption, police added.

Scottsdale police noted they produced a public service announcement about why it’s important to stay out of the water.

“Trust me, people, stay out of the water,” Scottsdale Fire Department Captain Dave Folio said in the PSA. “It’s got pesticides. It’s got chemicals that run off from the golf course.”
