3 children dead, 2 injured in Texas; mother suspected in stabbing rampage, cops say

Police are investigating a stabbing in Italy, Texas, on Friday afternoon that killed three children and injured two.

The incident took place in the children’s home, about 45 minutes south of Dallas, and the suspect is said to be their mother.

Child welfare workers were reportedly at a separate home on the street where the crime took place, and called for help when they heard screams coming from the house, according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.

Three were found dead inside the home near an elementary school. Two other children suffered injuries and were transported by helicopter to a local hospital.

The victims were all elementary school-aged kids, another source told WFAA, an ABC affiliate in Texas.

Ellis County Judge Todd Little confirmed that the mother is being treated as the suspect and is currently in custody.

Officials say there is no ongoing threat to the local community, and the story is still developing.
