Andrew Tate gets another 30 days in Romanian jail

[ad_1]

Self-professed misogynist influencer Andrew Tate must remain behind bars in Romania for another 30 days, a court ruled Tuesday.

Tate, 36, was arrested in the eastern European nation with his brother, Tristan, on rape and human trafficking charges in December.

While the Tates will remain in prison, two women arrested alongside them, Georgiana Naghel and Luana Radu, will be released to house arrest, the BBC reported.

In a previous hearing, a judge said the Tates should stay locked up because of their ability “to exercise permanent psychological control over the victims.” Their detention had already been extended twice.

Andrew Tate is escorted by police to a Feb. 1 hearing.

Romanian cops said both Tates were part of a criminal organization that lured women through promises of relationships, then held them against their will and forced them to film pornographic videos. Authorities identified six victims, including at least one minor, and accused of Andrew Tate of raping at least one woman.

Tate has repeatedly denied the allegations on his popular Twitter account. He was banned from the platform in 2017 after he said women “bear responsibility” when they are raped. However, Elon Musk reinstated his account after he took over the social media company in October.

In December, Tate threatened to sue one of his alleged victims in civil court in the U.S. He claimed he’d seek $300 million in damages.

“It’s clearly an effort to intimidate,” the woman’s lawyer told the BBC.

Tate, a British citizen and former kickboxer, was also accused of raping a woman in 2013. She told police that Tate sent her a text message that read, “I loved raping you.”

U.K. police decline to prosecute that case.
