CBS is making a huge change to its late night programming.

“The Late Late Show with James Corden” slot is being taken over by a reboot of “@midnight,” a Comedy Central series which aired from 2013-2017, Deadline reported.

It marks the first time in nearly three decades that the 12:30 a.m. slot will be filled with a program other than “The Late Late Show.”

It was widely known Corden planned to step away from the show this spring to spend more time with his family. But up until now, it was unclear what CBS would do with the new opening.

The decision is likely to alter the landscape of late-night television across channels, as NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” will now be the only talk show in the 12:30 a.m. slot.

The “@midnight” reboot will be executive produced by Stephen Colbert in conjunction with Funny or Die. It’s anticipated to reflect the show’s original setup as an internet-themed panel-style game show, although original host Chris Hardwick is not currently involved.

(L-R) Chris Hardwick, Thomas Lennon, Whitney Cummings and Nick Swardson speak onstage at "@midnight with Chris Hardwick Live" during 2017 SXSW on March 10, 2017 in Austin, Texas.

It marks another executive producing venture for Colbert. The “Late Show” host currently oversees two Comedy Central series: “Tooning Out the News” and “Hell of a Week with Charlamagne Tha God.”

CBS President and CEO George Cheeks explained that the programming change is a cost-cutting measure. According to Deadline, producing the late-night slot was costing the company around $60 million per year, and Cheeks aimed to bring the number down to around $35 million with this replacement.

The move brings an end to “The Late Late Show” legacy, which began in 1995 with host Tom Synder, who was succeeded by Craig Kilborn, Craig Ferguson and finally Corden.

Corden stated, in a heartfelt announcement on the show last April, that the decision to move on was “the hardest decision [he’s] ever had to make,” and that his time on the show has been “an absolute privilege.”
