Long-running feud led to vicious central California family massacre: report

A years-long type of conflict between two central California families culminated in the chilling January massacre that left six people dead, according to a report released Saturday.

Six members of the Parraz family, including a 16-year-old girl and her 10-month-old child, were killed Jan. 16 in Goshen. The Parrazes had a long-running feud with the Analla family, and one of the two suspects charged in the killings is an Analla, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Authorities have so far referred to the bloodbath only as “gang-related.” But the L.A. Times examined years of court documents that showed Angel Uriarte, one of the suspects, and his fellow Anallas had beef with the Parrazes dating back many years.

The families had ties to rival gangs, but the specific conflict dated to an incident in which Martin Parraz shot up the home of an elderly woman in the Analla family, the Times reported. In the ensuing years, the families traded verbal barbs and gunshots.

Martin Parraz was not killed in the Jan. 16 shooting, but a member of the Analla family who spoke with the Times believes he was the target. Four days before the massacre, someone shot at the same elderly woman’s home.

“Anytime anything bad happened, [Uriarte would] blame it on [Martin Parraz],” John Tabares told the Times.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 16, Uriarte, 35, and Noah Beard, 25, sneaked onto the Parrazes’ property in Goshen, about 30 miles south of Fresno, and began shooting, police said. Beard has no connection to the family feud, the Times reported.

Rosa Parraz, 72; Eladio Parraz, Jr., 52; Jennifer Analla, 49; Marcos Parraz, 19; Alissa Parraz, 16; and Nycholas Parraz, 10 months, were the victims.
