U-Haul driver evading Brooklyn car stop strikes at least four people, leads cops on chase

A U-Haul driver who evaded a Brooklyn car stop struck at least four people and led cops on a high-speed chase Monday, police sources said.

Cops tried to pull the driver over at 10:49 a.m. near Fifth Ave. and 75th St. in Bay Ridge but he refused to stop, the sources said.

As some point, the driver hit a man believed to be in his 30s on Fourth Ave. near 54th St. in Sunset Park. That victim was rushed by medics to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in critical condition.

Three men on mopeds were struck by him in Bay Ridge and suffered only minor injuries.

The driver got away on the Gowanus Expressway but was chased by police and arrested nearly five miles away on Hamilton Ave. at Columbia St. near the mouth of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in Red Hook.

The NYPD Bomb Squad was called to search the U-Haul, which has Arizona plates, as a precaution but the truck was found to be empty.
