U.S. eliminated from World Cup after 3-1 loss to Netherlands in Round of 16

The mighty Netherlands buried its chances and buried the Americans’ World Cup dreams in the process.

The Dutch advanced from the Round of 16 in Qatar with a 3-1 win over Gregg Berhalter’s U.S. squad on Saturday.

The young Americans had their chances, but in the end their inability to finish proved costly.

The Netherlands got first-half goals from Memphis Depay (10′) and Daley Blind (45′+1) and then a late crushing tally from Denzel Dumfries (81′) to advance to the quarterfinal round.

The U.S. finally got on the board with a wild goal from Haji Wright in the 76th minute to cut the lead to 2-1.
