Donald Santacroce, 65, walked into a Salt Lake City bank on Monday and demanded just $1.

He then insisted on waiting for the police to come and arrest him so that he could go to federal prison, reports NBC News.

The incident occurred at the Wells Fargo Bank near South Main Street.

Santacroce allegedly slipped the teller a note that read, “Please pardon me for doing this but this is a robbery. Please give me $1.00 Thank you.”

He then asked the bank employees to call the police, and proceeded to sit in the bank lobby complaining about how long it was taking for the police to arrive.

“Donald made a statement to the victims that they are lucky [he] didn’t have a gun because it was taking the police so long to get there,” read the affidavit from the arrest.

While he waited, the bank branch manager cloistered the employees in the backroom for their safety. There were no injuries reported in the incident.

When police finally arrived, Santacroce handed them the $1 bill and explained to them that he entered the bank with the intent to rob it, which is a federal crime. He also told the officers if he was released from prison, he would rob another bank.

As of Wednesday, information as to why Santacroce wanted to go to federal prison was not available from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

He was also arrested the week prior by Utah Highway Patrol for a DUI investigation and careless driving.
