Woman crossing Brooklyn street with teen son fatally struck by hit-and-run pickup truck driver

A 41-year-old woman crossing a Brooklyn street with her teenage son was fatally struck by a hit-and-run pickup truck driver, police said Sunday.

Tamika Richards and her 18-year-old son were in the crosswalk on Mermaid Ave. at W. 24th St. in Coney Island when the driver of a red pickup truck crashed into them both about 8:50 p.m. Friday, cops said.

The driver kept going west on Mermaid Ave. and has not bee caught.

Richards and her son were just a couple blocks from home when they were hit.

Medics rushed Richards to Coney Island Hospital but she couldn’t be saved. Her son was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in stable condition, police said.

Richards was a mother of six and had a 6-month-old grandson according to a GoFundMe created by her distraught family to cover funeral expenses.
