Snow is returning to the region overnight, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Seattle.

The morning commute could be a bit challenging with icy conditions.

Tuesday to Wednesday, it was areas north of Seattle that got hit with the most snow. Wednesday to Thursday, it will be the south Sound getting the flakes.

Winter Weather Advisories are out for much of Western Washington through 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

“A convergence zone has been continuing with sea level rain (mainly) but snow above just a couple hundred feet elevation,” reported KIRO 7 meteorologist Morgan Palmer. “This band of precipitation from the Seattle area southwest will sink south only very slowly into the evening and may diminish somewhat, but as temperatures fall, expect more snowfall down to sea level from the Seattle metro area (Everett to eastside to south King to Bremerton) southward. This includes Tacoma and Olympia.”

Thousands are still without power across the region.

A map of the outages and the most up-to-date information can be found on each electricity provider’s website:

The snow continues to impact Sea-Tac airport with more flight cancellations and delays. Check with your airline before hitting the road.

Morgan provides a forecast overnight through Thursday.

“Everett north: Generally less than two inches

”Seattle and central Sound corridor: 1-3 inches with localized heavier amounts

”South Sound, including Tacoma and Olympia: 2-4 inches with localized heavier amounts

”Nearer and in Central and Southern Cascades (foothills included): 3-8″ with localized heavier amounts.

”Morning low temperatures will be in the 20s so expect any moisture on roads – even outside of snowy areas – to refreeze. Thursday morning drivers will need to be very careful, particularly on untreated roadways. It will also be breezy overnight into Thursday but not as windy as last night.”
