Pierce County Transit gives free rides to warming centers

[ad_1]

Pierce County Transit is offering free rides to warming centers and shelters this week to help those who need access to transportation out of the below-freezing temperature and snow.

The service is being run in partnership with the Pierce County Department of Emergency Management.

Cold weather shelters starting to open across Puget Sound region

Rides are free for anyone traveling to or from a warming shelter, they just need to let the driver know they are using the service.

The free ride service will run to several shelters through Saturday, Dec. 3. This could be extended if the cold weather persists.

“Even if we get above freezing, we’ll just have snow and rain over the ice,” Ted Buehner, KIRO Newsradio meteorologist. “Now, here we are and the action has been in the south end. We are going to get into another scenario tomorrow. It will be kind of a repeat of Tuesday.”

Highs will only get into the mid-30s for most of the area, with the north wind making it feel colder.

A list of warming center locations and hours can be found here.
