Union claims plans for WA iron ore railcar industry at risk

Plans to establish an iron ore railcar industry in WA are being put at risk by Chinese materials being imported by BHP as part of a trial project, claims the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union.

The union alleged “flat packs” being delivered to UGL’s Bassendean facility by Chinese company QRRS contain “twisted panels, pieces not cut to plan and incorrect assembly instructions” — which was complicating the build process.
