Aston Villa vs Burnley live: score and latest updates from the Premier League

[ad_1]

Hello and welcome to Telegraph Sport’s coverage of Aston Villa vs Burnley, one of three Premier League fixtures this evening, the others being Everton vs Crystal Palace and Chelsea vs Leicester City.

This is the second time in two weeks that these two sides play each other. Aston Villa were in command at Turf Moor on May 7, taking the spoils in a 3-1 victory.

Burnley’s caretaker manager, Mike Jackson, will be looking for more from his team this evening if they want to stay in control of their Premier League survival hopes. The Clarets sit in 18th on 34 points, with Leeds one point ahead, albeit with a far inferior goal difference.

The goal difference is crucial, meaning anything but a loss tonight would put Burnley in charge of their own destiny come the final day of the season on Sunday.

“We know if we get a certain amount of points from these last two games it’s in our hands,” Jackson said.

“This group works better when we play in the now, mentally we’re in a good place. Everybody in the whole place is trying to do their bit, everyone is all in.”

The Clarets dropped into the bottom three after losing 1-0 at Tottenham on Sunday as Leeds scored a last-minute equaliser at home to Brighton.

Villa have struggled for consistency since Gerrard joined the club in November, but they still have an outside chance of finishing in the top 10 of the table.

“My focus is on us. We’ll be aggressive, we’re at home. We played at Burnley recently and we played extremely well and we won the game comfortably (3-1),” Gerrard said.

“We know their strengths. They’ve been really strong under the new manager, and they’ve given themselves a decent chance of survival.

“They’re going to be all in and they’re going to empty it at Villa Park, so we need to compete and match that in all departments and hopefully our quality will come through.”

Villa stand in between Manchester City and their fourth title in five seasons as the two sides meet at the Etihad on Sunday.

Burnley will end their campaign at Turf Moor against Newcastle United.
