Callum Wilson puts the ball in the net again at St James’, but this one’s chalked off for offside. And there goes the half-time whistle. Newcastle just the one up at the break.

Rangers meanwhile have turned it around at Ibrox. John Lundstrum puts the Light Blues ahead on the stroke of half-time, and while Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s coat remains on a shoogly peg, the situation is less precarious than it was 20 minutes ago. Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-0 Aston Villa (Wilson 45+6 pen)

It’s half-time at the Amex: Brighton 3-0 Chelsea. “You’re getting sacked in the morning,” trill the home fans, trolling their old boss Graham Potter, because they can’t miss that sort of open goal. “A well Di Zerbed lead,” observes Grant Tennille, because someone had to do that as well.

Our unofficial Scotland correspondent Simon McMahon writes: “You’ve inexplicably somehow neglected to mention Scotland’s game of the day etc etc … Tannadice … world-famous Dundee United .. blah blah… Yeah, you guessed it, 1-0 Motherwell. United lucky to have nil. Liverpool v Man City it is not.”

At St James’ Park, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez has been replaced by Robin Olsen. Martinez had earlier taken an accidental knock on the head from his own man, Tyrone Mings, and didn’t look himself at all. But the Villa physios inexplicably allowed him to continue. A few minutes later, Martinez claimed possession and threw the ball out of play to demand more treatment. Now he’s been taken off. It should have happened earlier.

GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-0 Southampton (Edouard 38). Odsonne Edouard gets his goal now! He converts Tyrick Mitchell’s cross, and that goal had been coming.

Crystal Palace have the ball in the net against Southampton, but it won’t count. Odsonne Edouard slotted, but Michael Olise was flagged offside in the build-up. It’s still 0-0 at Selhurst.

… but maybe not! Antonio Colak has been the only shining light of Rangers’ season so far, and the German-born Croat has quickly levelled at Ibrox. It’s Rangers 1-1 Aberdeen.

There’s nothing going right at the moment for Giovanni van Bronckhorst either. The Rangers boss was already in all sorts of trouble, humiliated in Europe and with ground already lost to Celtic at home. Now his team are trailing Aberdeen at Ibrox, Connor Barron slotting from close range after 21 minutes. Time could be running out for poor old Gio.

GOAL! Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur (Moore 22). Tottenham’s miserable week continues apace, as Kieffer Moore curls home. Nothing going right for Antonio Conte at the moment.

In the Championship, Sammie Szmodics has put promotion-chasing Blackburn Rovers 1-0 up at Hull. Meanwhile Chelsea should be back in it at the Amex, but Conor Gallagher and Christian Pulisic have taken turns to snatch at glorious opportunities to halve their deficit. It’s still 2-0 to the Seagulls.

GOAL! Brighton 2-0 Chelsea (Loftus-Cheek 14 og)

A fast start for the Michael Carrick era at Middlesbrough. His new charges have taken an early lead at Preston North End, Chuba Akpom scoring after eight minutes. Meanwhile more bad news for West Brom: Huddersfield have gone one up at home against Millwall through Yuta Nakayama, and will leapfrog the Baggies at the bottom of the Championship as things stand.

The 3pms have kicked off all over the country. It’s Remembrance Sunday in three Sundays time, so all the matches have been preceded with a rendition of The Last Post.

There have been a couple of results in the Championship. Bristol City and Swansea City enjoy a healthy rivalry, and they’ve shared the spoils out west in 1-1 draw. Meanwhile Sheffield United have won 2-0 at West Bromwich Albion, a result that keeps the Baggies in all sorts of relegation-related bother.

Players take to fields all over the land. We’ll be off in a couple of minutes. Goal frenzy, please!

There are also a couple of Premier League matches to be played later this evening. Not that Clocko™ will have anything to do with them, you understand – there will be hot MBM action, don’t worry – but the point remains. Everton travel to Fulham for the 5.30pm kick-off, while at 7.45pm, Liverpool host Leeds United in a replay of the 1965 FA Cup final / 1974 Charity Shield punch-up. To whet your appetite for the latter, please be upstanding for Rob Smyth, who has some rather more up-to-date references for your edification.

That result puts City back in their usual spot: atop the Premier League table. Let’s see how this baby changes this afternoon, then.

The first Premier League result of the day is in. Manchester City have beaten Leicester City thanks to a typically superb Kevin De Bruyne free kick. If you want details, Barry Glendenning, like a pint of plain, is your only man.

Bournemouth make three changes to the side that was on the wrong side of a couple of borderline handball decisions at West Ham on Monday evening. Kieffer Moore and Jordan Zemura are in, as is goalkeeper Mark Travers, who replaces the hamstrung Neto. Spurs made six changes from the draw with Sporting Lisbon, Davinson Sanchez, Clement Lenglet, Emerson Royal, Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp and Ryan Sessegnon earning recalls. Eric Dier is one of the six stood down, presumably either rested or tasked with boning up on the offside law.

Brentford and Wolves were both gubbed 4-0 last time out, by Aston Villa and Leicester City respectively. The Bees respond by calling up Ben Mee, Josh Dasilva and Yoane Wissa, while Wolves welcome back Boubacar Traore and Nelson Semedo. Diego Costa shrugs off a knock picked up in training and starts for the visitors.

Just the one change for Crystal Palace, who were routed 3-0 at Everton last weekend, Jordan Ayew making way for Jeff Schlupp. Southampton also make one swap, with Che Adams replacing Adam Armstrong. Nathaniel Clyne is on the Palace bench, available for the first time since being stretchered off against Chelsea at the start of the month.

Brighton make a couple of changes to the side downed at Manchester City last time out, Kaoru Mitoma and Pervis Estupinan grabbing back their shirts. Chelsea boss Graham Potter, returning to his old stomping ground, recalls Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Potter reportedly received “a mixed response” when he disembarked the Chelsea bus.

Newcastle, coming off the back of that highly impressive 2-1 win at Tottenham, name an unchanged side today. So do their opponents Aston Villa, everyone earning their start after demolishing Brentford within 15 minutes last weekend. Allan Saint-Maximin returns from his hamstring injury to take a spot on the Newcastle bench, while Aaron Danks takes charge of Villa for the final time before Unai Emery arrives.
