KING Charles banged in a £28,000 winner on Monday – as Perfect Alibi routed rivals to give the monarch his biggest victory yet.

First place never looked in doubt for the three-year-old filly under top jockey Tom Marquand at Yarmouth.

Sent off the 11-4 fav, Perfect Alibi scooted clear of 12-1 runner-up Pearl Beach and 10-1 Goolwa to land the top notch Listed prize.

Perfect Alibi’s win in the 1m6f British Stallion Studs EBF Beckford Stakes at 4pm was worth £28,355 in all.

Add in Just Fine’s win at Leicester last week – King Charles’ first in the royal silks – and the monarch has won just under £50,000 since September 29.

That was the date of his first runner since inheriting the multi-million pound Royal racing operation from his late mother.

Marquand said: “That was a really good performance and from the bottom of the straight it was evident she’d be dominant.

“She’s a darling of a filly and really coming to the fore now.

“She’s put in some pretty decent performances and hopefully it’s a sign there’s more to come.”

The victory came amid Sun Racing reporting Charles is set to axe one of the late Queen’s closest and most trusted friends from his role.

Racing manager John Warren oversaw all her Majesty’s racing and breeding interests for more than 13 years and famously celebrated next to Elizabeth II when her horse Estimate won the Ascot Gold Cup in 2013.

The bloodstock maestro is now moving in Bahraini royal circles, having recently taken on a role advising Commissioning’s owner Isa Salman and Abdulla Al Khalifa.

He was on hand to celebrate Commissioning’s Fillies’ Mile win at Newmarket on Friday.

Warren is still in charge of horses running in the Royal colours – but insiders believe he might not be involved for much longer.

So, it’s no wonder he’s been branching out after King Charles inherited his late mother’s racing operation.

The Royal string now run in the name of the King, but it’s thought Camilla Queen Consort is the one behind the scenes taking an interest, albeit not as heavily as Her Majesty did.

Warren has his fingers in enough pies to tick him over with or without the gig for the Royal family.

But it will mark a big change for him if the changing of the guard leaves him out of the Royal fold.

Warren, one of the most respected figures in the racing world, was with Her Majesty talking horses just before her death at Balmoral last month.

He said: “We sat there for hours strategising and making plans going forward.

“I think the nicest thing for me is to know that she was surrounded by her family members.

“She was in such a healthy state of mind and in tremendous form.

“She really loved having them right there with her and being able to talk about her horses and her love for her horses right to the very end.

“I left her on Monday afternoon, the prime ministers were coming in on the Tuesday and she had a winner on the Tuesday.

“On the Tuesday evening she was in really good form, delighted she’d had a winner, and talked about the prime ministers coming in and out.

“I can hardly believe it possible that within less than 48 hours the Queen had died.”
