Watch: ‘My name’s Paul and you’re a d—‘ – Jeremy Vine abused by Bentley driver in Kensington cycling row

Jeremy Vine, the BBC presenter, was called a “d—” by a Bentley driver in Kensington in his most recent cycling row.

The Radio 2 DJ regularly updates his followers on his altercations with drivers, and films his commutes to work in London.

And in a sleek production on Wednesday morning, he details his run-in with a Bentley convertible driver which he headlined: “Kensington – where bad roads and bad drivers come together.”

It shows Mr Vine pulling away from traffic lights in front of the white luxury car, and clad in a blue helmet, remaining in front of the vehicle as other cyclists stick to the left-hand-side of the road.

The Bentley driver toots his horn.

Mr Vine guessed that he believed the driver may have been angry at being boxed in by cyclists in west London.

The driver then passes the presenter on the inside lane, something Mr Vine describes as a “classic ‘punishment pass'”, claiming it was because the motorist was “cross” with him.

The Bentley then pulls back in front of Mr Vine, something he described in the video as “pointless” on a road with no cycle lane.

At the red light, the BBC personality pulls up alongside the driver to confront him, and says: “Oh, you’re quite a dangerous driver, mate.”

The driver, pointing his finger at the inside lane, replies: “You’re in the wrong lane. Why aren’t you in that lane?”

Mr Vine asks him: “Why do you think you’ve got a right to go ahead of me just because you’re in a car?”

The response from the driver is: Because you deliberately went in front of me and in the wrong lane. Get in the bloody cycle lane.”

The video points out there are no cycle lanes on this road in Kensington.

Mr Vine then asks: “What are you talking about? Why are you driving dangerously?”

The Bentley driver, who is carrying passengers, says: “I drive how I want. You don’t own the road, believe it or not.”

Dropping down to eye level so that the motorist can see Mr Vine’s recording device, the BBC presenter then asks: “What do you mean ‘drive how you want’? What do you mean by that?”

The driver then holds his hand up, lowers his window, and delivers the line: “My name’s Paul, and you’re a d—.”

With that, the green light appears and “Paul” pulls away.

The video ends with him interacting with a man Mr Vine describes as Italian, as they discuss reporting the driver.

Captions at the end of the clip read: “This is why Kensington scares the bejeebers out of me on my bike.

“Please be a little kinder to people on bicycles – we won’t hold you up for more than a few seconds.”
