Luckily, Pompeo’s belly could easily be hidden under loose scrubs, and there were plenty of medical instruments and beds for her to stand behind also.

Pompeo was also given four weeks off from the show during the later part of her pregnancy, and an elaborate storyline was developed to cover it.

Per the show’s history, Meredith Grey decided to donate part of her liver to her estranged father, accounting for her sudden disappearance from the show.
