Amazon Teases ‘The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power’ Season 2 Release

Amazon’s Vernon Sanders recently talked about the release date of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season two.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power made its debut on Prime Video this past Summer, giving Amazon its bigges hit to date. With production on the second season of the series already underway in the United Kingdom, Amazon’s head of television Vernon Sanders recently told Collider that it’s “more unlikely than likely” that it will make its debut in 2023. This means that the series will probably return in 2024, just like HBO’s own big fantasy series, House of the Dragon.

“I don’t know that I can say… It would be amazing if we could get Season 2 out within a year of Season 1,” Sanders told the site. “It may take a smidge longer than that, but we’re doing everything we can, and we’re going to get better and faster as we go. Certainly, the production, what we’ve learned in Season 1, has taught us things that we’re applying in Season 2, and so far we set a goal for ourselves of when we want that show to be released, and we are on track and on plan.”

Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper are directing the The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season two episodes. The Amazon series has also added fifteen new actors to its cast, with one of them, Sam Hazeldine, replacing Joseph Mawle as the orc leader Adar.

Amazon has big plans for its Lord of the Rings series, having so far spared no expense with its development. The company has committed to a 5-season production plan for The Rings of Power, which is reportedly worth at least $1 billion.

Amazon Studios is producing The Rings of Power in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are serving as showrunners and executive producers on the series.

The ensemble for the series also features Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers and Daniel Weyman.
