[ad_1]

The Amber Heard and Johnny Depp saga appears to be over.

Amber Heard has announced her decision to settle her much-publicized defamation case brought against her by Johnny Depp. The case revolved around a Washington Post article penned by Heard, discussing her experiences with domestic violence. Depp was not named in the piece, but it was heavily amplied that he had abused Heard, something he denied.

Following a multi-week trial in Fairfax County, Virginia, which was streamed online, Johnny Depp was awarded $15 million in his defamation case against Amber Heard, with a seven-person jury coming to the conclusion that the Washington Post article had defamed him. Heard won on one count of her countersuit, arguing that she was defamed by a member of Depp’s team.

The $15 million was reduced to just over $10 million due to the fact that Virgina Law caps punitive damages to $350,000, but according to TMZ, Amber Heard has settled the suit for $1 million. The outlet was told that the money is coming from Heard’s insurance company rather than her own pocket.

“We are pleased to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made clear throughout this process his intent to bring the truth to light,” Johnny Depp’s lawyers Camille Vasquez and Benjamin Chew told TMZ. “This was never about the money. The jury’s unanimous decision and the judgment in his favor against Ms. Heard remain fully in place, and the payment of $1M reinforces her acknowledgment of the legal system’s rigorous pursuit for justice.”

Amber Heard took to her official Instagram page to release a lengthy statement statement about her decision to settle the case. Check out what the Aquaman star had to say in the IG post below.
