Autistic boy named Brandon came out of his shell after seeing crowd with ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ flags

The mother of an autistic nine-year-old named Brandon said he came out of his shell after seeing ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ flags at a carnival and mistakenly believing they were for him. 

In March Minnesota-based podcaster and author Sheletta Brundidge, her husband and her three youngest children, including her son Brandon, 9, who is severely autistic, made a stop during their Spring Break vacation at ‘Sensory Friendly Day’ at Houston’s Livestock Show and Rodeo, The State reported. 

Brundidge said during the trip her son told her that ‘These people love me here!’ They’ve got my flags all over the place. They’re cheering for me!’ 

The mother of four was confused but later realized that her son had become fixated on flags mounted on different RVs which read: ‘Let’s Go Brandon!’- a national anti-Biden chant adopted by conservatives. 

In October NASCAR driver Brandon Brown, 28, unintentionally sparked the phrase after NBC sports reporter Kelli Stavast confused the crowd jeering ‘F*** Joe Biden’ for ‘Let’s Go Brandon!’ at a NASCAR event in Alabama.

Brandon, (pictured) who was completely unaware of the politics behind the phrase, told his mom that to him ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ ‘means to have courage and try your best

 Since the phrase was popularly called out, the chant has reached other professional and college sporting events by trolling conservatives.

Merchandise based around the phrase has also been sold as a ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ store recently opened in Massachusetts as well as around 12,000 listings on eBay for related products to the chant.

A song was even recorded that was influenced by the popular phrase by Bryson Gray which topped the charts on iTunes.

But despite the actual meaning behind the flags, Brundidge said the slogan gave young Brandon a confidence boost that helped him battle his social anxiety and Brundidge even captured her son and two younger siblings, who are also autistic, in the back of a golf cart happily singing ‘Let’s go, Brandon!’ 

Brandon, completely unaware of the politics behind the phrase, told his mom that to him ‘It means to have courage and try your best.’

‘Let’s Go Brandon’ has become a euphemism for ‘f*** Joe Biden for conservatives 

The incident inspired Brundidge to write the children’s book ‘Brandon Spots His Sign’ about how seeing the ‘Let’s go, Brandon’ signs allowed him to overcome anxiety and pushed him to do things like public speaking and playing sports. 

The proud mother said after seeing the sign Brandon was encouraged to join others in social activities.  

She said the book is meant ‘to show how you can take something that was meant for ill-intent or evil and turn it into good.’

‘It’s just a little boy who saw a sign, who got encouraged, and he’s better on his autism journey,’ she added.’… My son is too young to vote, but his story and how the Let’s Go Brandon flag impacted him is special and it needed to be told.’

President Biden has taken the rallying cry in stride, even joking about it at this years White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

‘A lot of people say the Republican Party’s too extreme too divisive to control by one person. They say that’s not your father’s Republican Party. Ronald Reagan said Mr. Gorbachev, tear this wall down. Today’s Republicans say ‘Tear down Mickey Mouse’s house.’

‘And pretty soon they’ll be storming Cinderella’s castle. You can be sure that Republicans seem to support one fella. Some guy named Brandon. He’s having a really good year. I’m kind of happy for him,’ Biden said. 

Last Christmas an Oregon dad named Jared Schmeck even repeated the phrase to Biden during a NORAD Santa Tracker event on Christmas Eve which was being held virtually for children and their families.

‘I hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas as well. Merry Christmas and Let’s go, Brandon!,’ Shmeck said after his kids told Biden what they wanted for Christmas.

‘Let’s Go Brandon, I agree,’ the president said in response.
